High-pressure Gas Heating Inside the SEM

The Hummingbird Scientific SEM High-pressure Gas Heating sample holder encloses samples within a microchip-based gas cell for in-situ SEM imaging under controlled gas flow and elevated pressure. Built from Hummingbird’s high-pressure gas-cell platform, it combines pressure-rated chip sealing, gas delivery, and closed-loop heating to reproduce gas environments closer to processing and operating conditions than lower-pressure gas-cell SEM workflows.

Designed for Gas–Solid Reaction and Materials Research

Use the platform to observe catalyst restructuring and degradation, corrosion, thin-film deposition and dissolution, nanoparticle dynamics, and temperature-dependent surface reactions while monitoring morphology and chemistry at the microscale.

Observe Mechanisms Under Controlled Pressure and Temperature

By correlating SEM imaging, gas composition, pressure, and heating, researchers can investigate reaction pathways, structural transformations, and degradation mechanisms that are difficult to infer from post-mortem characterization alone.
