Why are our parts superior?

Domestic CNC manufacturing capabilities

We operate one of the most advanced micro-component machining facilities in the US with over ten computer numerical control (CNC) machines, several of which are the only model of their kind operating in North America. As the only electron microscopy hardware maker with a dedicated machine shop, our manufacturing capability allows rapid inspection and iteration, as well as unique functions and user-experience features that are unlocked only by conformance with tighter tolerances.

Why is our hardware superior?

Hand-assembled on-site and optimized for reproducibility

We assemble machined hardware and off-the-shelf components into various high-vacuum, microfluific, pneumatic, and microelectronic systems, combining mechanical, thermal, electronic, and magnetic design principles to unlock experimental functionality. Custom jigs, calibration tools for small delicate components, custom vacuum cleaning, seal checking, and 3D printed micro-component handling tools, are all part of our repertoire. Each assembled product is designed with a superior standard for microscope fit, function, and aesthetic.

How do we know our hardware is superior?

Dedicated inspection shop with a suite of high-end inspection tools

To ensure the highest possible standard for experimental reproducibility, we pay close attention to tolerances, glide surfaces, o-ring compression distances, and microfludic channels. Dimensional, electrical, thermal, and cleanliness inspections are performed at every stage of production. We have full suite of metrology and electronics testing equipment in our inspection shop as well as a dedicated nanoscience laboratory with two JEOL 2100 TEMs for applications testing and product development.

Do you know how your data is collected?

Thermal, electrical, magnetic device qualification

Our sensors and stimulus control devices are calibrated in-house. IR camera calibration of on-chip thermometry enables stable and accurate closed-loop temperature control as well as custom levels of precision within specified temperature ranges. Power sources and oscilloscopes are available for electrical signal analysis. Device and component calibration with the help of a Hummingbird Engineer, or TEM lab instrument time with access to a Hummingbird Applications Scientist are available for a fee.
